Spaceship infographic shows how mankind?s creations stack up to the Starship Enterprise

If we want an Enterprise-size ship, we have our work cut out for us

If you're a science fiction fan, there's a good chance you've already heard about the engineer who claimed?we could build?Star Trek's famous Enterprise ship in just 20 years, using technology already available to us. What you might not know, is just how huge of an undertaking it would be. A space lover who goes by the online handle?Invader Xan has taken it upon himself to compare the massive Enterprise with many of mankind's space vehicles from the past, present, and future.

Going by accurate measurements, Xan rendered vehicles like the?Space Shuttle,SpaceShipTwo, and even the?International Space Station. He then drew the starship Enterprise. As you can see from the graphic (full version here), the mythical?Star Trek ship absolutely dwarfs anything humanity has ever attempted.

It's unclear from the graphic just what version of the Enterprise Xan used for this particular comparison, but the most recent appearance of the vehicle ? seen in the 2009 blockbuster?Star Trek ? measures over 900 meters in length. Compared to the Space Shuttle which boasts a meager 51-meter stance, it's clear that we'd have quite the project ahead of us if anything like the Enterprise is ever to see the light of day.
